Well, that was fast.
If you tuned in to "19 Kids and Counting" on Tuesday, (Apr. 8) you got your first glimpse of Jill's suitor, Derick Dillard, via Skype. And now, you'll be seeing more of him. According to Us Weekly, Jill and Derick are now officially engaged to be married.
"When my dad first introduced Derick and I [remotely], we spent hours texting, calling, and talking on Skype while 8,000 miles away from each other. And when we finally met in person in Nepal, we knew within days that we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together," says Jill to US, in a statement about her engagement.
It doesn't sound like the two had the usual Duggar courtship relationship. Derick's job (working overseas in Nepal doing humanitarian work) probably precipitated the change in planning.
Jill says romantic Derick's proposal was "perfect." After asking for her hand from Jim Bob in February, he planned a whole scenario, complete with self-penned song sung by a friend, performed as a planted stranger in a park. After the song ended, Derick dropped to his knee, and asked Jill for her hand with a .63-carat diamond from Israel, set in a white gold band.
So it seems Jill will beat sister Jessa and her beau Ben Seewald down the aisle, and wedding plans are currently underway. It remains to be seen as to how much of the plans will be seen on their reality show. Tune in Tuesdays on TLC to find out.
