2012 Summer Olympics medal count: U.S. tied for first with China
A total of 38 countries have earned a medal so far out of the roughly 200 countries that sent athletes to the 2012 games. Our favorite country to get on the board Monday (July 30) would have to be Lithuania. Rūta Meilutytė, a 15-year-old swimmer, won gold Monday in the 100m Breaststroke. She is the youngest Lithuanian athlete to win a gold medal and the first Lithuanian to win a swimming medal.
There are 18 medal events on Tuesday (July 31), including the women's team gymnastics finals, the women's 200m Free and 200 IM in swimming, the men's 200m Fly and 4x200 Free relay in swimming, and women's Synchronized 10m Platform in diving.
