2012 Summer Olympics: Women's diving sees the U.S. happy to win the silver

us-womens-diving-kelci-bryan-abigail-johnston.jpgThe United States hasn't medaled in diving at the Summer Olympics since the 2000 Sydney games and the U.S. hasn't medaled in synchronized diving since its inception at the same games.

Now the drought is over. Kelci Bryant and Abigail Johnston took home the silver medal after the five rounds of dives that make up the Synchronized 3 m Springboard event. They held the second-place spot from the second round on, though a really top notch dive by the Canadians in the final round could have knocked the U.S. back to bronze.

The gold went to the Chinese team of He Zi and Wu Minxia. It was He's first Olympic medal in diving, but Wu's fifth. In fact, Wu has won the Synchronized 3 m Springboard three Olympics in a row now, earning a silver in the event in 2000. And the Chinese team earned it -- they were synchronized like they are actually robots, it was a sight to behold.

To give it some perspective, the U.S. beat Canada for the silver by five points. The Chinese beat the U.S. for the gold by nearly five times that amount.
