PyeongChang is 2018 Winter Olympics host city
The International Olympic Committee convened for its 123rd session and the members cast their votes for the host city of the 2018 Winter Olympics. The three finalists were Munich, Germany, Annecy, France and PyeongChang, South Korea. After the voting, IOC President Jaques Rogge announced that the host city had been chosen, which means one of the cities received a majority vote.
The official announcement of the host city is coming at 3 p.m. GMT, which is 11 a.m. EDT in the United States, so stay tuned for the news. According to Reuters, PyeongChang was considered the favorite. In the live broadcast on the IOC website, it did show a few of the initial votes cast on a screen - PyeongChang received 7, Munich received 6 and Annecy received 2. Of course, there were many votes left to be cast.
