5 Seconds of Summer: Meet the band that dominated 'Today Show'

Australian imports 5 Seconds of Summer are the hottest group of the year, to the point that thousands of fans camped out for days just to see them perform on "The Today Show."

So who are the new hunks that are making tweens and teens around the county lose their minds? Meet (above, from left to right) Ashton Irwin, Luke Hemmings, Michael Clifford and Calum Hood.

The Australian pop and punk rockers formed in Sydney in 2011, but didn't start to get international attention until One Direction asked them to open on 1D's 2012 Take Me Home Tour. If the level of devotion for 5SOS sounds similar to the love given to One Direction, that's likely why. They both even had similar morning show experiences.

5SOS really broke out when the band released its single "She Looks So Perfect" on Feb. 23, 2014. This track made 5 Seconds of Summer the fourth Australian band ever to have a No. 1 hit in the UK, and the first in 14 years at that. "She Looks So Perfect" also reached No. 2 on the Billboard Top 200.

Since then, 5SOS has been on a roll. The band teamed up with One Direction again for their 2014 Where We Are Tour, and also dropped their debut self-titled album on June 27, 2014.

Now that you know their backstory, it's time to learn their music. Here's a sampling from their early days covering songs on YouTube to their most recent "Today" performance. Do you get the hype?
