"Beverly Hills, 90210" star Jennie Garth appeared on "Bethenny" Monday (Oct. 21), where host Bethenny Frankel asks her how she's gotten along as a single mom since her divorce from Peter Facinelli. Garth says it has not been easy.

"It's super challenging ... you have to go through a lot. You have to find your way and you have to stumble and you have to make mistakes," says Garth. "I think that's the only way you learn how to do it is by making mistakes, unfortunately."

"I expected to come out of [the marriage] and be great at it. ... I thought I could do it, how hard can it be? But I realized I have ... to be open to learning because I don't know how to do it," she adds. "It's fun and it's awful all at the same time. ... It's not that exciting, it's like a weird type of torture. But it can be fun."

Garth also talks a little bit about getting back into the dating scene. She recently began seeing Michael Shimbo, a San Francisco-based media executive who serves as the CEO of PlanesTrains+Automobiles, a video travel channel.

"I look for somebody that shares an energy, a shared common energy. There's just like that connection that I need to have. ... First and foremost has to be that 'zing,'" says Garth.

The actress can next be seen in a "90210" reunion with Tori Spelling, as the two are set to star on ABC Family's comedy "Mystery Girls."
