Aaron Hernandez indicted with first-degree murder charge
Aaron Hernandez was officially indicted on a first-degree murder charge by a grand jury on Aug. 22. The case, which involved the murder of Hernandez's former friend Odin Lloyd, will proceed directly to the Superior Court.
The court filing of the indictment shows that Hernandez faces the first-degree murder charge as well as five weapons charges. The former New England Patriots star was arraigned on June 26 and held without bail. If he's convicted, Hernandez is looking at life in prison.
"A young man was murdered last week and we extend our sympathies to the family and friends who mourn his loss," the Patriots said in a statement after Hernandez's arraignment. "Words cannot express the disappointment we feel knowing that one of our players was arrested as a result of this investigation. We realize that law enforcement investigations into this matter are ongoing. We support their efforts and respect the process. At this time, we believe this transaction is simply the right thing to do."
Lloyd was found dead on June 17, shot with a gun execution style. In addition to this murder, Hernandez is being investigated for a July 2012 double homicide in Boston.
