abc-fall-2014-predictions-shark-tank.jpgABC did not have a great season in 2013-14. Yes, "Scandal" grew and grew. Yes, "Shark Tank" continued to perform strongly. And yeah, "Resurrection" was a pleasant surprise.

But the network is ending the season in fourth place among adults 18-49, and its crop of freshman shows was especially weak. Of the 14 scripted series ABC debuted this season, only three -- "Marvel's Agents of SHIELD," "The Goldbergs" and "Resurrection" -- would seem to have good odds of returning for 2014-15.

For all that, though, ABC is not in as deep a hole as, say, NBC has found itself in recent years. There are strong, or at least competitive shows, on almost every night -- it's more a matter of filling in some really glaring weaknesses.

Take 8 o'clock on Thursdays, a black-hole time period for several seasons running on ABC. The network experimented with "Shark Tank" there a couple of weeks ago, with some success. Zap2it proposes making it a permanent move and giving Friday over to a two-hour block of family comedies. Tuesday becomes all dramas, while the other nights remain mostly intact, with a few new shows sprinkled in.
