ABC renews 'Nashville,' 'Suburgatory,' 'Revenge' and four more, picks up 'Super Fun Night' and 'The Goldbergs'
At the same time, ABC has picked up two new series: "Super Fun Night," starring Rebel Wilson, and the coming-of-age-in-the-'80s show, "The Goldbergs."
Most of the renewals are not much of a surprise from ABC. "Castle" and "Once Upon a Time" were assumed ready to return for their sixth and third seasons, respectively. "Grey's Anatomy," coming back for Season 10 in the fall, probably won't die until series creator Shonda Rhimes feels like it. And there's no way ABC would cancel the hot "Scandal" (also from Rhimes) before its third season.
The other renewals -- "Nashville," "Revenge" and "Suburgatory" -- are not huge surprises either. "Nashville" was ABC's one solid new series in the fall of 2012, while "Revenge" and "Suburgatory" have stayed steady enough through their second seasons.
The new comedy, "Super Fun Night," is a female buddy comedy about a group of long-time adult friends who gather weekly for their "Friday Night Fun Night." 13 years into the tradition, the group decides to branch out into the world with their tame partying. In addition to Wilson, the show will feature Lauren Ash, Liza Lapira, Kelen Coleman and Kevin Bishop.
"The Goldbergs" is a slightly different show, a family story set in the 1980s. The trials and tribulations of a pretty normal family unit are captured on the video camera owned by the youngest son, Adam. The "Wonder Years"-esque story stars Wendi McLendon-Covey, Jeff Garlin, George Segal, Hayley Orrantia, Sean Giambrone and Troy Gentile.
