John Mayer joined Brad Paisley on stage Sunday (April 7) at the 48th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards. The oddly-coupled pair performed Paisley's single, "Beat This Summer."
While Mayer mainly acted as lead guitarist of Paisley's band for the performance, he also went ahead and took his place front-and-center in the spotlight next to Paisley and sung a few bars, including the song's opening line. The guys warmed up by performing for the ACM Fan Jam Saturday.
Mayer recently announced he is planning a new tour after being sidelined from singing due to a chronic condition that started with a granuloma on his vocal cords, and was exacerbated by acid reflux.
While Mayer's voice sounded as smooth as usual next to Paisley's on stage at the ACMs, their guitar sounds clashed like whoa. Particularly toward the end of the tune as the guys jammed out just a tad too long. Here's a clip of the guys dueting with acoustic guitars on Mayer's "Old Love" for CMT in 2010. Brad even forgets some of the lyrics and it still sounds better than their ACM performance.
