'Agents of SHIELD' gets full-season order from ABC

The order of nine additional episodes isn't a surprise, as ABC and Disney put tons of promotional muscle behind the series -- a TV continuation of the Marvel movie franchise -- and the first three episodes have drawn solid, if not spectacular, ratings.

The show has averaged 9.55 million viewers and a 3.6 rating among adults 18-49 in the overnight ratings for its first three episodes. Early returns on delayed viewing show "SHIELD" growing significantly: The first two episodes averaged 13.9 million viewers and a 5.7 in adults 18-49 with three days of DVR viewing factored in, and ABC says more than 22 million watched the series premiere when online viewing and a repeat airing are added in.

"SHIELD" has led or tied for the lead among adults 18-49 in its Tuesday timeslot in each of its three episodes and given ABC a big year-to-year bump as well. It's the first of ABC's new shows to get a full-season pickup.
