'Agents of SHIELD' preview: Clark Gregg promises Marvel 'surprises'
"Marvel's Agents of SHIELD." will introduce a whole new cast of characters to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Fans might be familiar with Clark Gregg's Agent Phil Coulson, but Ming-Na's Melinda May, Chloe Bennet's Skye and Brett Dalton's Grant Ward are all SHIELD agents who viewers will have to come to know in the show's first season.
That's likely why ABC is making such a big push to introduce the characters to television audiences ahead of time. In a new interview featurette with "The Chew's" Michael Symon, the cast talks about how they fit into the Marvel Cinematic Universe as they face "new and old threats" in the world of SHIELD.
"It's in continuity with the rest of the Marvel Universe. Those events will interact with our world and I have a feeling there will be some surprises," Gregg says.
As for why fans of the Marvel movies should tune into the TV show, Elizabeth Henstridge says, "I think the relationships. There's a reason that Agent Coulson's brought us all together, and I think that we don't as characters even know what that reason is yet."
Bennet adds, "It's really about the drama and people growing as characters."
"Agents of SHIELD" premieres on ABC on Sept. 24 at 8 p.m. ET.
