Two police officers who appeared on National Geographic Channel's "Alaska State Troopers" were killed in the line of duty Thursday (May 1), after an altercation in the village of Tanana.

The Alaska Dispatch reports that Sgt. Patrick Johnson and Trooper Gabriel Rich were shot after being called in to assist a public safety officer with an altercation between two men over a couch. In the end, Johnson and Rich were gunned down and 19-year-old Nathanial Lee Kangas was arrested in connection with their deaths.

Following their passing, NatGeo has pulled reruns of the episodes Rich and Johnson appear on. Neither was scheduled to tape for the show in the future. "We send our deepest condolences to their families and the entire Alaska State Trooper force," NatGeo spokesman Chris Albert says in a statement.
