Alec Baldwin, John Krasinski engage in some Yankees-Red Sox smack talk

The New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox resume their long-running rivalry on Friday (April 8), which means that the very large and very vocal fan bases of the two teams will be resuming their long-running war of words. Not that it ever really stops.

If you'd rather let a famous TV actor do your verbal jabs for you, though, you could do worse than to watch the video above starring Yankees fan Alec Baldwin and Sox supporter John Krasinski. The two NBC comedy stars (and "It's Complicated" castmates) spar in an ad campaign for New Era, the official cap-maker for Major League Baseball.

Krasinski ( "The Office") gets off the first shot -- "Are you a Phillies fan now since you guys couldn't get Cliff Lee and he went to Philadelphia for less money?" -- but "30 Rock's" Baldwin more than holds his own. We particularly like his dismissive, very Yankee-like comment about the Yankees and Sox not really being a rivalry, "just like fire doesn't have a rivalry with kindling."

And yeah, Krasinski goes a little over the top with the "You'll be dead by October!" comment, but really all's fair in Yankees-Sox. (And he seems to have the public with him on New Era's Facebook page.)

Unfortunately for Krasinski, though (and maybe for New Era as well), the ad campaign starts on a day when the Sox find themselves winless in their first six games of the season, while the Yankees are 4-2. Of course, if the Sox get out of their funk against the Yankees this weekend, it'll be all that much sweeter for their fans.
