Alexis Bledel and Vincent Kartheiser's busy summer may make time together more challenging for them, but they intend to make it work.
Professional duties are in the immediate future for the engaged couple. The former Rory of "Gilmore Girls" soon starts filming the FOX midseason sitcom "Us & Them," based on the British show "Gavin & Stacey," with Jason Ritter. Meanwhile, her " Mad Men"-co-starring fiance is in his native Minneapolis to play Mr. Darcy in a Guthrie Theater staging of "Pride and Prejudice" opening Friday, July 12, and running through the end of August.
"We kind of try to not get too involved in" public observations of his relationship with Bledel, Kartheiser tells Zap2it. "It's kind of like reviews of your work.
"I did this movie with Patrick Stewart a long time ago ( 'Masterminds'), and I was 17 and it was my first day on the set. I had another movie that had just come out, and I was sitting in the makeup trailer and reading a good review of it, and I was boasting about it and getting all on my high horse.
"And Patrick Stewart said, 'If you believe the good ones, you have to believe the bad ones, too. So don't believe any of them.'"
Kartheiser says he's adopted that advice "in general when it comes to public response to anything you do. I've already resolved not to read any reviews of this play I'm doing, just because it's a better experience. You can really focus on what you're making, not the response to what you're making. And that's a much healthier place for me to be."
Yet another summer job is in store for Kartheiser: He's also one of the voices in the "High School USA!" segment of FOX's "Animation Domination High-Def," premiering Saturday, July 27. He notes he can do that work anywhere -- as he did in a Minneapolis recording studio several days ago -- so that's less of a factor in his sharing time with Bledel, who played temporary love Beth to his Pete Campbell in AMC's "Mad Men" Season 5.
"There's a lot going on," Kartheiser confirms. "I can't really speak to her schedule, but we definitely have plans to spend some time here."
