Amanda Bynes' mother granted temporary legal control
In addition to the news that Amanda Bynes is having her psychiatric hold extended 30 days, Judge Glen M. Reiser also temporarily approved her mother Lynn Bynes' request for conservatorship.
Reiser says that the doctor's finding "of her lack of capacity to give consent for medical care" means that the 27-year-old's mother will have legal control over her well being and finances. That gives Lynn control of Bynes' estimated $3 million savings, where she lives and her basic needs. Doctors will be in control of Bynes' treatment while she's hospitalized, though.
Bynes' court-appointed attorney May Shea says her client does "oppose and object [to the conservatorship]. She doesn't feel there's a need." Bynes has been hospitalized for a total of 17 days. She didn't attend the hearing.
Lynn's conservatorship will remain in place until Sept. 30. Hopefully Bynes shows signs of improvement by that point in time.
