With "Breaking Bad" over and shows like "Low Winter Sun" not setting the world on fire, AMC is looking for their next breakout hit, something that will soar as high as "The Walking Dead." A new report says the network is betting on another graphic novel, "Preacher."
According to Badass Digest, AMC has ordered a pilot for "Preacher." The story centers around a preacher named Jesse Custer, who is tragically flawed. He also happens to be possessed by a creature called Genesis, the product of an angel mating with a demon, which gives him some interesting powers, including an ability to make anyone do as he wishes.
The series, written by Grant Ennis, follows Jesse on his travels to literally find God, who abandoned heaven after the birth of Genesis.
This isn't the first time an adaptation for "Preacher" has been in the works. James Marsden was cast as Jesse in 2002 for a movie version of the story, though it eventually fell apart. In 2006, HBO pursued a pilot though that project never came together either.
