'American Horror Story': Oh, Tate. No.

american-horror-story-rubber-man.jpg "American Horror Story" lets loose with another fantastic episode this week. Definitely an upper just in time for Thanksgiving.

In the main plot, Hayden (the ghost) is determined to drive Vivien crazy so Ben will institutionalize her. She does a bang-up job - her and Tate, but we'll get to that in a second. By episode's end, Vivien has had a seemingly psychotic breakdown, shot Ben and is led off to be "evaluated." Hayden is sure she'll get to have Vivien's babies if Vivien is locked away.

Tate. Oh, Tate. He turns out to be Rubber Man. So he's the father of at least one of Vivien's babies (I'm still not sure it won't turn out to be one is Tate's and one is Ben's). He is the one responsible for killing (and beating bloody. And raping with a fireplace poker, good lord) Chad and Pat from six months prior to the Harmons moving in. He is also trying to get a baby for crying Nora Montgomery's ghost.

Tate also sleeps with Violet and gets her to lie about seeing ghosts so it makes her mother seem even crazier. He remarks during the last flashback that it's kind of "romantic" for the dead Chad and Pat because now they'll be together forever.

Thoughts & Tidbits

  • I've been so on board with Tate and Violet, even in the light of him being a mass murderer responsible for a school shooting. But he's also the Rubber Man? And he kills people for Nora? And it's pretty heavily implied he's going to kill Violet so they can be together forever? Sigh. I just can't deal with all that. Come back, sweet Tate whom I liked.
  • So who votes for Marcie the real estate agent knowing more than she lets on? Her remark to Vivien when Vivien was faking her nausea, "Just don't have the baby now, that's the last thing you wanna do," made me think she meant don't have the baby in the house, because the house will own the baby.
  • Kate Mara is fabulous as Hayden, I really enjoyed her this episode. Though I did miss Jessica Lange.
