"They messaged me on Twitter and were like 'We love you, let's go out to lunch' and I was like 'hell yeah!' And then we met and we just connected," Preston tells Zap2it and a small group of reporters backstage after the show. "They're the same kind of music as me, same personalities. They're awesome."

In fact, they bonded so quickly that Alex Kinsey lent Preston his guitar for his performance of Jason Mraz's "A Beautiful Mess. "That was Alex's guitar I was using! They're awesome people. I love them," he says. "We hung out a bunch of times this week. They're really similar to my style so we really connected -- and we all love Jason Mraz."

Preston hung out with Kinsey and his girlfriend Sierra Deaton several times throughout the week, actually, and he took the opportunity to ask them for some advice on making it through a televised singing competition. "They just told me to take it day by day. Don't get too ahead of myself," he says. "Don't worry about what's going to happen soon. Don't worry about what's going to happen in that moment."
