'American Idol': Diddy nominates self as 11th-hour Cowell replacement before Monday's big news

"American Idol" producers must have a pretty good idea of which celebrity (or celebrities) they want to fill the empty chair left by judge Simon Cowell if rumors that they'll announce a replacement heir(s) on Monday are true.

Both EW and TV Guide are reporting that they've already made the decision, and plan to make it official at FOX's August 2 Television Critics Association summer press tour presentation.

And while most of us are relieved that months of speculation might finally come to an end, there's one person who wants them to give it a little more thought. Who else but Diddy?

During a July 28 interview with George Lopez on his titular talk show, Diddy revealed that it was the plush paycheck that made him want the gig: "Once I heard what Simon makes ... [I] would love the job."

There are no reports on whether Diddy's interest has led to any meetings, like some of his competition, but never underestimate the mogul's thrall. You can safely add him to the almost unending list, on which his biggest competition includes Justin Timberlake, Elton John, Chris Isaak, Harry Connick Jr., Shania Twain and even Jessica Simpson.

And if Nigel Lythgoe indeed returns as producer, a few more seats at the judges table might be available in the very bear future.
