'American Idol' eliminee Shelby Dressel to appear on 'Ellen'

shelby-dressel-idol-320.jpg "American Idol" judge Ellen DeGeneres has invited eliminated contestant Shelby Dressel to appear on her show.

Shelby Dressel was one of only two contestants cut from the Top 46 on Tuesday night's (Feb. 16) episode of "American Idol" (the other was Jessica Furney, whom we interviewed here).

Shelby's quirky looks and husky voice made her a favorite of ours, so we were sad to see her leave. The competition for the female singers was so stiff this year. Try out for "Idol" again, Shelby!

Meanwhile, new "Idol" judge Ellen DeGeneres announced Wednesday (Feb. 17) that she is inviting Shelby to her talk show next week. We hope Shelby performs a song! Ellen also revealed to us why the judges' deliberations take so long. Watch the clip below for some behind-the-scenes insight.

That still doesn't explain why an episode with about 20 minutes of solid content was stretched over two hours of broadcast time. You cannot blame it all on your pets, Ellen.
