'American Idol' finale: Dane Cook slated to perform?

dane-cook-getty.jpgThe internet rumor-mill is abuzz with talk about which legendary artists will be on hand to crown the "American Idol" Season 9 winner and send Simon Cowell riding off into the sunset to start his show "The X Factor."

Sources tell Zap2it that comedian Dane Cook was seen leaving "Idol" rehearsals this week and will be on hand to perform a comedic number.

MJ's Big Blog is reporting that producers Nigel Lythgoe and Ken Warwick spilled the beans that Hall & Oates, Chicago and the Bee Gees will be there to, as Ken put it, appease the baby boomers.

MIX 106.3 is reporting that Lee DeWyze is performing "I Can't Go for That" with Hall & Oates and Crystal Bowersox is performing "With a Little Help From my Friends" with Joe Cocker, while Idol Tracker is saying Crystal's duet with Melissa Etheridge is back on the table.

Finally, apparently the "Idol" boys have been spotted by WQAL rehearsing "Pants on the Ground." C'mon, you knew it had to make a finale appearance -- we hope General Larry Platt is there.

There are, of course, many past Idols returning, as they do every year. Just recently it was announced that Kelly Clarkson and Fantasia Barrino, winners of seasons 1 and 3 respectively, will take the stage in a duet.
