'American Idol' judges: Jennifer Lopez out, Kara DioGuardi, Mariah Carey... in?

dioguardi-carey-lopez.jpgJust last week it seemed that FOX had the "American Idol" judges panel lined up and ready to put pen to paper. Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler seemed like a sure thing. When the network canceled their much-anticipated announcement at the TCA Press Tour, though, it became clear that trouble was brewing.

Turns out, FOX made their decision about the judges without actually getting Lopez, Tyler, and Randy Jackson in a room together. No chemistry test? Uh-oh.

The latest news from People says that Lopez has vacated her seat, leaving one "Idol" Coca-Cola cup without a judge. Apparently, her diva demands were too much for the producers. "FOX had just had enough," says a source.

Though the web is buzzing with news of Kara DioGuardi's firing, her father recently announced that she hasn't heard from producers at all, and has been following the story from home just like the rest of us. Was the "Idol" machine keeping her hanging on the line in case of emergency?

If the seat doesn't go to DioGuardi, one pop icon is willing to throw her hat in the ring. Nick Cannon says that his wife, Mariah Carey, has a burning desire to sit next to Randy Jackson. "She talks about it," Cannon tells The Hollywood Reporter. "She says, 'I would love to do that."

Time's running out, FOX! Who's it going to be?
