'American Idol': Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Pink and Sean 'Diddy' Combs rumored as dream judges

If the producers of "American Idol" could get their top picks as dream judges for next season, the results would not be good for the current panel. Instead, Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Sean "Diddy" Combs and Pink are all on the rumored shortlist.

Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj, Keith Urban and even Randy Jackson would be out.

Fortunately for anyone at "Idol" who wants to keep his or her job, this is merely a rumored dream list and not anything set in stone. Radar Online quotes a source at FOX who claims that only Ryan Seacrest can count on getting his "American Idol" job back next season.

"The producers are frantically working on lining up big name stars for Season 14," the source reportedly said. "The highlight of the season was Mariah and Nicki's explosive feud that was leaked on the web -- and that was before the season even aired. Producers have been trying to recreate that buzz ever since and it hasn't worked -- the public isn't buying it. The judges don't have real chemistry, and there's no real standout contestant."

There is a great deal of truth to this, as "American Idol" numbers have been falling throughout the season, with many blaming the judging panel for the audience's lack of interest. None of them seem to like each other much, but there's not any open hate -- for the most part -- either. Even the Mariah/Nicki conflict has become more of occasional insults than anything dramatic.

If these rumors are to be believed, the "Idol" producers' solution is to scrap the current panel and then go as big as possible. "You can't get any bigger than Justin Bieber. The executives are calling it their dream team because who wouldn't tune in to see Justin and Selena, Pink and Diddy?" the source explained. "It will cost a fortune to get them, but the show has gotten so stale that FOX is desperate for a revamp -- they're willing to pay to put 'Idol' back on top."

Is there anything to these rumors? It's hard to say. Earlier in the season, the word was that Jennifer Lopez was the favored choice for a new judge. While she is set to perform in the finale, nothing more seems to have come of it.

"American Idol" Season 12 airs Wednesdays and Thursdays at 8pm on FOX.
