'American Idol' renewed for Season 14, auditions start in June

american-idol-season-14-pickup.jpg "American Idol's" ratings have taken a hit this year, to the point where it's no longer the top show in its timeslot, let alone all of broadcast TV.

Still, next to no one expected the show to go away, and FOX has indeed picked up a 14th season. The network announced Wednesday night (May 7) that auditions for "American Idol XIV" will begin in June in Minneapolis.

Just what the show will look like next season remains an open question. Deals for the judges typically don't get done until later in the summer, and host Ryan Seacrest's current contract is also coming to an end, although he's expected to return.

Auditions for Season 14 of "Idol" will be held June 18 in Minneapolis; June 25 in New Orleans; July 23 in Uniondale, N.Y.; July 30 in Nashville; and Sept. 29 in San Francisco. An "American Idol Audition Bus Tour" will also visit 10 other cities in the summer, and fans can submit online auditions (and get more info on in-person dates) at AmericanIdol.com.
