'American Idol': Simon Cowell fulfills girl's dream to sing for him days before losing her life
Five-year-old Bethany Fenton was granted her wish to visit the studios where Cowell's across the pond singing show, "Britain's Got Talent" is based, reports the UK's Daily Mail. She sang "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" to Simon in his dressing room after rehearsals and before Saturday's (June 5) final.
"Simon let me sing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star to him," said Bethany. "He's so nice and I love him."
After fulfilling her dream, Bethany passed away just days later after a sudden deterioration in her condition. She lost her life Tuesday morning at Oxford's Radcliffe Hospital.
Cowell is reportedly not taking the news well. His spokesman Max Clifford said, "He is really upset.... He is just so sad, and sad for the whole family. She was a very special little girl and Simon was so touched when she sang for him."
He also added: "He was happy that he was able to do a special something on Saturday night to give her a few precious moments but it is so sad and his heart goes out to Bethany's mum and dad and he is thinking of them."
Robin Thompson, a family friend and spokesman, said, "They came back from 'Britain's Got Talent' on Saturday. On Sunday she was fine, she was absolutely over the moon with what happened.
"Her dad said that she had done what she always wanted to do, meet Simon Cowell and sing to him," Thompson continued. "She had achieved her big ambition and was now ready to depart this earth."
Bethany was diagnosed with a grade three to four anaplastic astrocytoma brain tumour in January of last year. Surgeons said it was impossible to remove since it was inside the brain and growing outwards.
Tributes to Bethany are posted on "The Bethany Appeal's" Facebook page.
