'American Idol' Top 9 interview: Lazaro Arbos talks about his tough Beatles night
Lazaro Arbos had a tough week on "American Idol" Season 12. His Beatles song, "In My Life," didn't go over well with the judges, and some of the criticism was enough to bring tears to Lazaro's eyes. What did the singer have to say about this after the competition ended? Find out in this interview.
The judges didn't seem to think that this week went well, did they?
Lazaro Arbos: Yeah. You know, I just felt like I should have chosen another song. I chose a song I loved and I know very well, and I had to do a last-minute song change -- and I had never in my life heard that song. I think that, considering the fact that I learned it really late, I think that it wasn't so bad.
Even if this was a last-minute pick, why did you choose this song?
Lazaro Arbos: Well, there's a lot of things that go on. Sometimes, people don't get to sing the songs that... You know, sometimes you don't sing your favorite song. And that's OK. I think that we all have our off-weeks and our good weeks and our bad weeks. So you know, in the end, it's a TV show. So that's what they want.
Last week, you were ranked fourth out of 10, so how do you feel going into this week, knowing that you did so well and that people really liked it?
Lazaro Arbos: I think I love that they love me for what I love. I think that I wasn't my best. And the reason I broke down on the stage was because I felt that, according to what they said, that was my worst song. I felt like I let a lot of people down. But then I walked off, and I thought to myself, "Everything happens for a reason."
Was there any performance that stood out to you tonight?
Lazaro Arbos: I loved Amber Holcomb. I loved her song. I think she's gorgeous. Her tone reminds me of Whitney so much. So I loved that.
Your outfits are always great. Is the bright yellow jacket your doing?
Lazaro Arbos: Yeah, I had a lot of say.
Any colors we can look forward to?
Lazaro Arbos: Colors? I think I want all colors. I have to start mixing them up now.
"American Idol" will air the Top 9 results on Thursday, March 21 at 8pm on FOX.
