idol-top-9-results.jpg "American Idol" whittled from nine to eight contestants this week. After how great the Top 9 did last night, we really weren't sure who was going home.

In a bit of a surprise, the first two put in the Bottom 3 are Hollie Cavanagh and Heejun Han, both of whom we don't think were three of the weaker singers last night. Hollie wasn't up to her usual best, but she was still solidly in the middle, while Heejun had maybe his best week so far. The final addition to the bottom was Skylar, who is the only one we thought should actually be in the bottom.

The first person sent to safety is Skylar, and then the person singing for his life is Heejun. Finally! A guy in the very bottom! We're not celebrating Heejun being in the bottom as a person, it's just so remarkable to see a male in trouble.

We can't see the judges using the save on him. They've gotta save it for if one of the girls has a bad week, like when Pia went home last year. They learned that lesson.

And then the judges don't use the save, so Heejun's journey has come to an end. What do you think, "Idol" fans? Was it his time?
