'American Idol': Why was David Cook missing from the season finale?

david-cook-getty.jpgFor those hoping for some juicy, scandalous reason behind the absence of Season 7 "American Idol" winner David Cook from Wednesday's (May 26) finale, prepare to be disappointed.

Cook couldn't join all his fellow "Idol" winners on stage for a Simon Cowell send off number because he had a charity event in Kansas City, his rep told Access Hollywood.

After Lee DeWyze was declared Season 9's "Idol" champion, Cook tweeted:

Congrats to Lee Dewyze! So sorry I could be there to see all my fellow idols. I'm there in spirit!

He immediately followed that up with:

Lol sorry. Couldn't, not could. Predictive text wins again

Another popular "Idol" who was conspicuously missing from the finale does have a somewhat scandalous story behind his absence. Earlier today, Zap2it reported that Adam Lambert didn't show up for his finale rehearsal, which got his scheduled "surprise" performance axed from the show.
