'American Idol' winner Carrie Underwood to headline holiday special on FOX

carrie-underwood-play-on-album-cover.jpg Carrie Underwood, winner of "American Idol" season 4 and many awards, is returning to FOX to headline her own holiday special, airing December 7th.

The two-hour show is tentatively titled "Carrie Underwood: An All-Star Holiday Special" and will be directed and produced by Adam Shankman and Nigel Lythgoe. Stars joining Ms. Underwood include Dolly Parton, Brad Paisley and other "American Idol" winner David Cook.

"Seinfeld" writer Carol Leifer, former "Frasier" executive producer Jeffrey Richman and actor/writer Seth Morris are penning sketches for the special.

Underwood, the most successful recording artist "American Idol" has produced, has a new album due out November 3rd titled "Play On."
