'American Idol's' Adam Lambert on Siobhan Magnus, mentoring and planning his U.S. tour
"I'm so glad to be back," gushes Lambert. "This is like a homecoming, a reunion. [Being asked to mentor] was a big shock and an honor at the same time. I'm just at the start of my career and I'm not an established recording artist, but I do know where [the contestants] are right now. It's fresh in my mind, what it's like to be up there."
"I'm so thankful for 'American Idol' putting me on the map, putting me where I need to be to start my recording career," he continues. "Things are fantastic. My song is charting, it's great."
But what does he think about the Idols he just mentored? "It's a different group this year. I think there's a definite emphasis on musicianship, there's a lot of people that play," Lambert observes, "It's more steered towards that singer-songwriter genre and sound, but they're all great singers. They all have great voices, they're all very likable. I do think our season was more diverse, musically."
When pressed for his thoughts on "Lady Lambert" Siobhan Magnus, Adam says, "I think she's a free spirit. I can see where they get the free spirit similarity ... She's definitely a dynamic singer and she takes risks."
We did make sure to dig for details regarding his upcoming North American tour. Nothing is set in stone yet, but Adam is going to play a big part in designing the tour. "I have to come up with the concept. I'm working with people, the look of it, the theme of it, the set list ... I'll be hands on in all of it," Adam teases.
His final advice for the Idols and how weird can they be on the show? "How weird do you wanna be? You gotta trust your instincts out there ... At the end of the day, it's you. You gotta trust your own instincts."
