'American Idol's' Casey Abrams still hospitalized, performance chances are iffy

casey-abrams-american-idol.jpg News broke Wednesday (Feb. 23) that "American Idol" semi-finalist Casey Abrams was rushed to the hospital after complaining of severe stomach pains. Now TMZ has learned that Casey is still in the hospital and will be receiving a blood transfusion today.

Which normally would not jeopardize him in the competition, since the last two season "Idol" has had the semi-finalists perform live, which would give Casey several days to feel better before the live show next week.

But this year, the show is back to taping the semi-finals early and the Top 12 men are slated to tape tonight. A source connected with the show tells TMZ that Casey has to perform tonight or he won't continue in the competition. They're discussing the possibility of Casey going to the taping, performing and then returning to the hospital.

We have to say - this is kind of crap. Last year they swapped the boy/girl nights to accommodate Crystal Bowersox's diabetes emergency. Why isn't Casey being afforded the same consideration? He's an early favorite, just like she was, and we are saddened at the prospect of him having to drop out of the season.

We'll keep you posted ...
