'American Idol's' Simon Cowell gets an Emmy

simon-cowell-cheeky-american-idol.jpgSimon Cowell, love him or hate him, but he's definitely helped shape the face of reality TV.

That's why the successful producer and TV personality is getting an Emmy, an International Emmy Founders Award that is. Cowell will accept the prestigious award at the 38th International Emmy Awards gala on Nov. 22 in New York City.

Cowell stars as a judge on the ratings juggernaut "American Idol," doling out his brand of wry criticism week after week, but the current season, Season 9, will be his last.

The Brit had helped develop two other reality franchises, the "Got Talent" show and "X-Factor," the latter is the reason why he's leaving "Idol."

"I'm delighted," said Cowell. "I've been very lucky to be able to make shows that I love."
