American Music Awards: Taylor Swift goes goth princess for 'I Knew You Were Trouble'

taylor-swift-american-music-awards-trouble-performance.jpgAt the CMA Awards earlier this month, Taylor Swift bored us to tears with her painfully cliche performance of her rebound-romance song, "Begin Again." For the American Music Awards on Sunday night, she went to the opposite extreme, performing her new dubstep-inspired "I Knew You Were Trouble."

Ditching her typical retro-cutesy shtick, Taylor literally ripped off her sparkly dress to reveal a bustier, black tulle, angry-'90s-teenager tights, and Patrick Verona combat boots. (Ten points to anyone who gets the reference!)

The choreography had a sort of aggressive goth ballroom dancing theme, giving us an uncomfortable Christian-Grey-red-room-of-pain vibe.

Let's face it: Taylor Swift just shouldn't dance. When she does, it just results in a lot of hair-tossing and lanky limbs flailing, which is oddly reminiscent of her "Valentine's Day" character's performance. And that was supposed to be funny.

By the time she hit the floor for some Madonna-at-the-VMAs gyrations, we were just cringing. Bring back the country sweetheart Taylor! We promise we'll never call you boring again!
