'America's Got Talent': Is Tim Poe a fraud?Add to Favorites | America's Got Talent
Poe drew sympathy when he recounted the brain damage he suffered in a rocket-propelled grenade attack and explained that it left him with a stutter that he can only overcome when he sings. But Rickey.org reports that military records don't match his story.
"Sgt. Poe's official military records do not indicate that he was injured by a grenade in combat while serving in Afghanistan in 2009, as he reports," the Minnesota National Guard said in a statement to Yahoo! TV.
The Associated Press, too, couldn't find anything to substantiate Poe's claims that he'd served for 14 years. Records show he has been a supply specialist for just nine years and adds that he has not received a Purple Heart -- an honor given to all military personnel injured in combat.
Now Poe's ex-wife is telling the New York Post that the singer may not even have a speech impediment.
"There were no combat injuries," she says. "I think he developed a 'feel sorry for me' stutter."
NBC hasn't officially commented on the accusations yet.
