Ancient popcorn discovered in Peru
The discovery was made during an analysis of corn cobs, husks, tassels and stalks recently unearthed at two archeological digs in Peru. The treat likely would've been prepared by wrapping a cob in some kind of material (aka a pre-historic Jiffy Pop) and resting it on hot coals.
Coincidentally, the discover came either right before or right after N ational Popcorn Day. According to the Popcorn Board, the celebration is either Jan. 19 or Super Bowl day. In 2012, the Super Bowl will be played on Sunday, Feb. 5.
to celebrate, the Popcorn Board suggests several activities, including writing a haiku poem about the snack (Oil, kernels, heat, time/Many loud explosions heard/
Pop, crunch, snack time. Yum!) or hosting a popcorn relay race.
