Angelina Jolie angling for U.N. promotion
At a Tuesday (Oct. 4) meeting with U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees Antonio Guterres, Jolie told reporters she's working with the agency to map out a new, expanded role.
We are looking at a few countries in the world," Jolie told reporters. "We're hoping to discuss it in the next few weeks but we want to research it properly."
One of the roles under discussion, according to Reuters, is that of special envoy concentrating on Afghan refugees who have fled their home country for Pakistan and Iran. The countries host a reported 2.7 million Afghans.
"Refugees are survivors, they are mothers and daughters and fathers and sons, they are all extraordinary people who have a remarkable story that tells of strength in the face of great loss," Jolie said. "They need our help more than ever."
