Angelina Jolie's 'Maleficent' trailer premieres on 'Good Morning America': Watch

The first look at Angelina Jolie's new Disney thriller "Maleficent" has premiered. The trailer for the upcoming flick made its debut on "Good Morning America."

As can be seen in the above video, the focus of this trailer is really to play up the atmosphere of "Maleficent" instead of to reveal the plot. It's a smart move for a first look at the flick, as it portrays the dark film's titular lady as a foreboding presence but maybe one who's not as completely evil as she is seen in "Sleeping Beauty."

As for Sleeping Beauty herself, Jolie's daughter Vivienne can be seen making her acting debut running through the field as young Aurora. Elle Fanning plays the older version of the character, and looks like she will be fully capable of holding her own against Jolie in the flick.

Jolie took to D23 to promote the movie, and she said then that Maleficent was always her favorite Disney character.

"I've loved Disney since I was a little girl and my children loved Disney. You know you can bring your kids to a Disney film," Jolie said. "Since I was a little girl, Maleficent was always my favorite. I was terrified of her, but I was so drawn to her. I wanted to know more about her, know what she was like and who she was. She had this elegance and grace, and yet she was so cruel, Just wonderfully and deliciously cruel."

"Maleficent" is due in theaters on July 2, 2014.
