Welcome to "Arrested Development" Rewatch. Leading up to the release of Season 4, Zap2it will be taking a look back at the 53 episodes that made "AD" one of our most beloved TV comedies. Watch the first three seasons of "Arrested Development" on Netflix. Today we're covering the Season 1 episode "Staff Infection," which premiered March 14, 2004..

"Staff Infection," the 15th episode of "Arrested Development" Season 1 focused pretty much solely on Bluth family dynamics and the shaky state of the company. The episode also serves to reinforce the notion that only Michael has any competency at all.

Plot: Michael ( Jason Bateman) is irritated to learn that his entire family receives Bluth Company paychecks, despite not working. The actual sheep employees, meanwhile, are going without pay. As a result, Michael makes Lindsay ( Portia de Rossi) the substitute receptionist and sets GOB ( Will Arnett) and Buster ( Tony Hale) to work at the construction site (although Buster first makes copies). Meanwhile, Tobias ( David Cross) gets himself checked in to the prison to do research, George Michael ( Michael Cera) thinks his absent father doesn't love him, and Lupe's family trip to Catalina gets ruined.

Bluth Company status: The employees (who aren't being consistently paid) are working weekends until Lindsay takes them all out to lunch. They accidentally go to Catalina instead. Then, federal agents raid the building.

Secondary characters introduced: Stefan Gentles ( James Lipton), the prison warden, and White Power Bill ( David Reynolds)

Notable guest stars: Sheep. So many sheep.

Milestones: First "Chicken Dance," performed by GOB alone at the construction site.

Most sexual tension:
  • GOB: "You know that Kitty is starting to sound pretty damn sexy..."
  • Michael: "That was Lindsay."

Allusions to Tobias being gay: In addition to the entire idea of Tobias being in a men's prison, his thought process beforehand pointed that direction.

  • Tobias: "Say something to scare me."
  • Lindsay: "F*** me."
  • Tobias: "I ought to check myself into a men's penal colony!"

Best narrator commentary: "For the first time, GOB saw his brother as a man." (While playing bulldozer chicken)

Next on "Arrested Development": "Tobias gets an insight into fear" -- White Power Bill informs Tobias of their new sleeping arrangement after George Senior sells him for a pack of cigarettes. The Bluth Company employees get herded (like sheep) into a trailer in order to get home.
