'Arrested Development' Rewatch: Season 1, Episode 1 - 'Pilot'
Plot: George Sr. holds a boat party to announce his successor, which his son Michael assumes will be him. The Bluth patriarch ends up passing The Bluth Company on to his wife Lucille instead, but moments later he is arrested by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Michael decides to get a job with Sitwell Housing Inc. and move with his son to Arizona, but his mother, sister Lindsay and brothers Gob and Buster convince him (clumsily) to stay and help them rebuild The Bluth Company.
Bluth Company status: George Sr. is arrested by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, the Bluth assets are frozen and Lucille puts Buster in charge of The Bluth Company. Michael eventually decides not to move to Arizona in order to help his family get back on its feet.
Milestones: First Lindsay Funke fundrasider: "Stop the Hunger." First mention of the Alliance of Magicians, back when Gob was still its leader. First mention Buster's ridiculously irrelevant but expensive education. First shot of the Bluth banana stand. First appearance of Gob's Segway. First awkward Buster massage. First taste of Lucille's failed attempts at winking.
Recurring joke worth remembering: "Illusions, Michael. A trick is something a whore does for money."
Most sexual tension: Maeby kisses George Michael to get revenge on their parents for not spending more time together, which starts the series' longest running -- and most disturbing -- will they/won't they relationship.
Best narrator commentary: "Yes, this is his family. So why is Michael so happy? Because he's decided to never speak to these people again."
Allusions to Tobias being gay: Tobias dresses up like a pirate and unwittingly joins a protest to allow men to be married at the yacht club, causing many -- including his wife -- to assume he is a homosexual.
Next on "Arrested Development": Maeby makes George Michael's life a living hell by moving into his bedroom, Lindsay gets a job selling watches but only ends up buying them. Gob tries to get a job with Sitwell Housing and George Sr. is having the "time of my life" in jail.
