'Arrested Development' Rewatch: Season 1 finale - 'Let 'Em Eat Cake'Add to Favorites | Arrested Development
Plot: Kitty returns with a scheme to take over the Bluth Company, but the truth is actually far worse than what she knows. Michael, fed up with the entire family, wants to leave with George Michael and never comes back. A book Tobias wrote years ago becomes a hit in the gay community. George Sr. has a heart attack -- or does he?
Bluth Company status: Really, really bad. It's revealed that the "light treason" George Sr. may have committed was building homes in Iraq in violation of U.S. sanctions.
Secondary characters introduced: Ann (her?) makes her first appearance when she flirts(?) with George Michael at the banana stand. She's played here by Alessandra Toreson, but Mae Whitman took over the role for all of Ann's subsequent appearances.
Recurring jokes worth remembering: Several "footage not found" cards, including one after Kitty claims George Sr. promised her the company and one after Tobias tells Lindsay they had some great times together. Everyone complains about being on the Atkins diet.
Milestones: George Sr. fakes a heart attack to get out of prison and go on the lam after the Iraq revelations.
Huge mistakes: Gob and Kitty try to make a power play with Michael right after Michael learns of their father's light treason.
Most sexual tension: Tossup between George Michael and Ann, and Maeby and Annyong -- she kisses him to get George Michael's attention, which he misinterprets.
Allusions to Tobias being gay: The entire subplot about Tobias' book "The Man Inside Me" being a bestseller in the gay community.
Best narrator commentary: "And that's when the family realized George Sr. wasn't dead, but was fleeing the country he loved so very much."
Next (season) on "Arrested Development": The family comes to terms with George Sr. fleeing, while chowing down on pastries. Annyong wants to kiss Maeby again, and Kitty helps George Sr. escape (footage not found). (When the episode filmed, "Arrested" hadn't yet been picked up for a second season. By the time the episode aired, it had been.)
