'Arrested Development' Rewatch: Season 2, episode 4 - 'Good Grief'Add to Favorites | Arrested Development
Welcome to the "Arrested Development" Rewatch. Leading up to the release of Season 4, Zap2it will be taking a look back at the 53 episodes that made "Arrested Development" one of our most beloved TV comedies.Watch the first three seasons of "Arrested Development" on Netflix. We continue with episode 4 of Season 2, "Good Grief," which aired Dec. 5, 2004.
Plot: Bounty hunter Ice informs the family that George Sr. was killed in Mexico -- but in fact he's hiding in a spider hole on a lot adjacent to the model home. George Michael discovers him and hides him in the attic, where he observes his own wake. Maeby starts trying to get emancipated from her parents, and Michael gets
Notable guest stars: Ben Stiller kinda-sorta makes his first appearance as Tony Wonder, albeit only in a still photo of Tony and his giant-loaf-of-bread trick
Recurring jokes worth remembering: Several instances of characters (George Michael, Goerge Sr. and Tobias) walking with head down while sad "Charlie Brown Christmas" music plays. The George Michael scene, culminating in him walking past a red doghouse with a sleeping beagle on top, is full of Peanuts references (and one of the funniest "Arrested Development" moments ever). The second introduces the "P 2252" code that later opens George Sr.'s ankle bracelet. The "P" stands for Peanuts, the 22 for the year of Charles Schulz's birth and the 52 for the year Peanuts debuted as a comic strip.
Huge mistakes: Gob's coffin trick goes horribly wrong. Buster thinks the wake is a birthday party for George Sr.
Most sexual tension: It's pretty much all one way, but Lindsay tries really hard to get Ice to notice her.
Allusions to Tobias being gay: Tobias, after seeing Lindsay flirt with Ice: "I am surprised, though, that she's going after somebody so close to my own type. But I guess we all do expose our inner desires, don't we?" Maeby: "I think you just did." Tobias: "No I didn't."
Best narrator commentary: "Michael was adjusting to his new position as vice president -- which meant doing the work of the president, his brother Gob."
Next on "Arrested Development": Buster finds out Captain Kangaroo is dead; Michael gets tired of taking care of George Sr.; Gob makes the cover of Poof magazine.
