"Arrow" Season 3 has cast Wildcat, one of the major recurring roles for the upcoming episodes. JR Ramirez ("Power," "Emily Owens, MD") will take on the role of the hero and his alter-ego, Ted Grant.

According to Deadline, Grant is a former boxer who has moved on to running a gym for underprivileged youth in Starling City. Grant also has something of mysterious past, which may account for his "Wildcat" nickname. Although the full extent of his role has not been explained, Grant will have major interactions with Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy).

Does this mean that Laurel is fully heading into the role of the Black Canary? It would fit if true, since Wildcat is, in the DC Comics, a mentor and trainer of vigilantes like the Canary.

Wildcat is one of two major recurring roles announced for "Arrow" Season 3 during the 2014 San Diego Comic-Con. The other, the villainous Ra's al Ghul, has not yet been cast.

"Arrow" returns Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on The CW.
