'Arrow' spinoff 'The Flash' casts John Wesley Shipp: 'Dawson's Creek' alum was the original Barry Allen

"Arrow" spinoff pilot "The Flash" just cast someone very meta.

Original Barry Allen portrayer John Wesley Shipp -- who played The Flash in the '90s TV series -- joins the cast of The CW's DC Comics pilot, Zap2it has confirmed.

Shipp will guest star in the pilot in a mystery role, and his part is intended to become a recurring role should the pilot be picked up to series. 

The "Dawson's Creek," "One Life to Live," and "Teen Wolf" alum joins previously reported cast members Grant Gustin as Barry Allen, Candice Patton as Iris West, Rick Cosnett as Detective Eddie Thawne, Danielle Panabaker as Caitlin Snow, Carlos Valdes as Cisco Ramon, Tom Cavanagh as Harrison Wells and Jesse L. Martin as Detective West.
