The cable channel and Iungerich have parted ways in what was called a mutual decision. MTV will now look for a new showrunner for the high-school comedy, which is finishing up production on Season 3 (the back half of which will air in the fall).

"'Awkward' is a wonderful series and we appreciate the creativity and devotion Lauren brought to this show," MTV head Susanne Daniels tells Deadline. "We wish her the best in her new ventures."

Iungerich leaving "Awkward" comes a couple of months after she exited "Hot Mess," a pilot she did for MTV (it did not go to series). According to Deadline, her departure from "Awkward" was motivated by both professional and personal reasons.

"Awkward" fans, what do you make of the news? Will the show be the same without Iungerich?
