Azaria Chamberlain verdict: Coroner rules a dingo took the baby
Azaria was just two months old when she disappeared from a camp site near Australia's Ayers Rock. Lindy long maintained that a dingo had taken the baby -- a finding that was reached by coroners at the time, but was overturned a year later by a higher court which ordered a second inquest, leading to Lindy's trial and conviction. She served four years in prison before her conviction was overturned.
In 1998, Meryl Streep won an Oscar nomination for her portrayal of Lindy in the movie "A Cry in the Dark."
On Tuesday, Chamberlain-Creighton said she was, "relieved and delighted to come to the end of this saga."
No longer will Australia be able to say that dingoes are not dangerous and will only attack if provoked," she said.
