Azealia Banks uses gay slur after 'beef' with Angel Haze: Twitter backlash puts her in her place
After Perez posted on his site about a "beef" and a diss track between Banks and another artist, Angel Haze, Banks fired back with an extremely crass tweet, which you can read on her Twitter.
Perez responded, "Some of your music is cute, but your attention-seeking ways are pathetic and hurtful. You drag while others choose to uplift!" Their barbs grew more heated as the very public Twitter feud went on.
Banks then tweeted to Perez, "omg u should just kill yourself... Like for real," followed by, "lol what a messy f****t you are."
Given the current climate, using a homophobic slur and suggesting that a gay person commit suicide is particularly shocking. Immediately, fellow Twitter users expressed their dismay at Banks' choice of language, while her fans tweeted their support for her.
Seeing the criticism, Banks wrote, "A f****t is not a homosexual male. A f****t is any male who acts like a female. There's a BIG difference." Then she added, "If u listen to my music and are not offended by the word n***a.... We're not gonna go here with this f****t s**t... We're just not. Lol."
Finally, she tweeted, "My most sincere apologies to anyone who was indirectly offended by my foul language. Not sorry for Perez tho. Lol."
Banks' remarks are wildly hypocritical, as she has said she is bisexual but prefers not to be labeled. She told the New York Times in 2011, "I'm not trying to be, like, the bisexual, lesbian rapper. I don't live on other people's terms."
