backpackers-seed-canceled.jpgThe CW's summer comedy experiment has ended quickly and not well. The network has pulled "Backpackers" and "Seed" from its schedule, effective immediately.

The two shows -- "Backpackers" moved from the web to TV, while "Seed" is an import from Canada -- debuted to modest ratings on July 14 and declined further in their second week. Both shows drew under half a million viewers in Monday's (July 21) same-day ratings. Those numbers don't represent the final audience for each show, but presumably The CW has seen enough preliminary DVR ratings to feel OK about pulling the plug.

With the cancellations, The CW is moving the premiere of "America's Next Top Model" up to Monday, Aug. 18 from Friday, Aug. 22. It will air at 9 p.m. ET/PT Mondays for six weeks, with encores on Fridays, before settling back into its Friday home with originals starting Oct. 3.

The network will broadcast the Young Hollywood Awards on Monday, July 28, and fill the 9 p.m. hour with "Arrow" repeats in the two weeks before "Top Model" premieres. New and repeat episodes of "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" will return at 8 and 8:30 starting Aug. 4.
