FOX's 'Backstrom' adds Sarah Chalke in key recurring part
The crime drama centered on a brilliant-but-damaged detective (Rainn Wilson) has cast former "Scrubs" star Sarah Chalke in a recurring part as Backstrom's former fiancee. She comes back into his life as the head of a civilian oversight committee who will cast a wary eye on Backstrom's ethically flexible brand of police work.
"When we first began our search for this crucial character, we all agreed that we needed someone like Sarah Chalke," executive producer Hart Hanson tells TVLine. "Imagine our glee when we actually scored the person most like Sarah Chalke in the world -- Sarah Chalke."
Chalke last starred on ABC's comedy "How to Live With Your Parents (for the Rest of Your Life)" in 2013. She made a final appearance on "How I Met Your Mother" in its final season earlier this year and also does voice work on Adult Swim's "Rick and Morty."
"Backstrom" is slated to premiere in 2015 on FOX.
