Barack Obama asks for early 'Game of Thrones,' 'True Detective' episodes

Barack Obama has some pretty great taste in television. The president of the United States makes no secret of his love of the best dramas on TV, and even used his Twitter account to ask for no "House of Cards" spoilers. But he, like the rest of us, sometimes finds it hard to wait patiently for new episodes to be released.

Of course, he's got the power of the free world behind him, so he can ask for a couple favors. Apparently Obama asked HBO chief executive Richard Plepler for a handout for the long President's Day weekend: Early episodes of "Game of Thrones" and "True Detective."

The New York Times shared the funny anecdote in an article discussing the recent competition between Netflix and HBO. Obama isn't picking sides, though. The weekend he was planning to watch these early "Thrones" and "Detective" episodes ("GoT" premieres April 6, while "True Detective's" final episode airs March 9), he also was planning on binge-watching "House of Cards" Season 2. Happy President's Day, indeed.
